The much-anticipated Navi Mumbai International Airport is set to be inaugurated in June 2025, according to Adani Group Chairman Gautam Adani. This new airport aims to reduce congestion at Mumbai Airport and improve air travel connectivity in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR).

Initially, the airport was scheduled to open on April 17, 2025. However, Adani confirmed on Sunday that the inauguration will take place in June.

Taking to social media, Adani shared a glimpse of the airport’s development and praised the efforts of the Adani Airports team and its partners in bringing this project to life. He described the airport as a “true gift to India”, set to redefine aviation connectivity and economic growth.

Major Investment in Aviation Sector

The Navi Mumbai International Airport is being developed as a greenfield project, making it the second major airport in MMR after the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport. The airport is being built by Navi Mumbai International Airport Ltd (NMIAL), a 74:26 joint venture between Adani Airport Holdings Ltd (AAHL) and the City and Industrial Development Corporation of Maharashtra (CIDCO).

The project involves a massive investment of Rs 16,700 crore, with the goal of enhancing air travel capacity and meeting growing passenger demand in India.

Govt Support and Infrastructure Growth

Prime Minister Narendra Modi had laid the foundation stone for the Navi Mumbai International Airport in February 2018. Since then, the project has seen rapid development, aiming to provide state-of-the-art infrastructure and world-class passenger services.

Once operational, new airport will play a crucial role in boosting regional economic development and strengthening Mumbai’s position as a global aviation hub. The airport is expected to improve flight operations, attract international airlines, and contribute to job creation in the region.

The completion of this project marks a significant milestone in India’s aviation sector, reinforcing the country’s commitment to infrastructure growth and technological advancement in air travel.
