Toronto: In a significant step towards managing plastic waste in India, Canada-based recycling company Plastonix has partnered with Vee Technologies, an IT services company headquartered in Bengaluru and New York. The two firms will collaborate in a 50:50 joint venture to develop a cutting-edge plastic waste recycling system in India, utilizing Plastonix’s patent-pending technology.

Pilot Plant to Optimize Recycling Technology

Vee Technologies will identify a suitable location for the joint venture’s first recycling facility. The company’s in-house engineering team will design and build the pilot plant, equipping it with proprietary technology and machinery. This facility will be used to test and enhance the efficiency of Plastonix’s recycling technology, tailoring it to the needs of the Indian market.

“The partnership with Vee Technologies is an exciting opportunity,” said Roland Kielbasiewicz, CEO of Plastonix. “Their engineering expertise makes them an excellent fit for this initiative, and we are eager to work with their team in the coming years.”

Plastic Waste: A Growing Challenge in India

India generated approximately 9.46 million tonnes of plastic waste in 2023, according to data from the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB). Shockingly, about 40% of this waste consists of single-use plastic, and only 8% is recycled. This highlights the urgent need for sustainable and efficient waste management solutions.

Once the pilot project proves successful, Plastonix and Vee Technologies aim to launch a large-scale plastic recycling program across India. The program will focus on significantly reducing plastic waste by transforming it into industrial fuel and construction materials.

“The versatile use of plastics makes its disposal a massive challenge,” said Chocko Valliappa, CEO of Vee Technologies. “We are thrilled to work with Plastonix to create innovative solutions for reprocessing waste plastic into valuable resources.”

Promoting Sustainability in India

This collaboration aligns with India’s Plastic Waste Management Rules 2016, designed to regulate plastic waste nationally. By addressing the plastic crisis, Plastonix and Vee Technologies aim to create a cleaner, more sustainable future for the region.

Through this joint effort, India may soon witness a revolutionary change in how plastic waste is managed, ensuring both environmental and industrial benefits.
