Bengaluru-based edtech company upGrad has joined hands with the Army Welfare Placement Organisation (AWPO) to help military veterans and their families find jobs in India’s corporate sector. This partnership aims to support veterans, their spouses, young graduates, and widows of martyrs in transitioning from military to civilian careers through skill training and job placement.
upGrad Helping Army Veterans
The partnership will provide special training programs to help military personnel and their families learn new skills that are in demand in today’s job market. upGrad will offer courses in:
- Artificial Intelligence (AI)
- Digital Marketing
- Data Science
- Vocational Training for Skilled Jobs
These courses will help veterans develop strong technical and professional skills, making them job-ready for corporate and industrial roles. The training will also be tailored to meet both white-collar and blue-collar job requirements, ensuring maximum career opportunities.
According to Srikanth Iyengar, CEO of upGrad Enterprise, this collaboration is a significant step towards nation-building. He stated that the demand for skilled professionals is increasing, and military veterans can play an essential role in meeting these needs. upGrad’s training programs will ensure that veterans and their families get the best opportunities to secure stable and rewarding careers.
AWPO Role in Helping Military Personnel
The Army Welfare Placement Organisation (AWPO) was created in May 1999 under the Ministry of Defence (Army) to help retired army personnel and their families find jobs. AWPO has already helped over 1.3 lakh veterans secure jobs in government, semi-government, and private companies.
AWPO understands the challenges veterans face after retiring from military service. Many struggle to find work that matches their experience, and pensions are often not enough to support their families. This is why career training and upskilling are so important for them.
Why This Partnership Matters
Major General Ajay Singh Chauhan (Retd), Head of AWPO, highlighted that while veterans have valuable experience, industry requirements are constantly changing. Many veterans need updated skills to fit into the corporate world. This collaboration with upGrad will bridge the skill gap and ensure that they are ready for new career opportunities.
The upGrad-AWPO partnership is a major initiative that will empower military veterans and their families by providing practical skills, career support, and job placements. With structured training in high-demand fields like AI, digital marketing, and data science, veterans will have a stronger chance to succeed in India’s growing job market.
This program will not only help military families secure stable jobs but also contribute to India’s workforce development by bringing skilled professionals into different industries.
