Swiggy Instamart has promoted Dhanya Hemanth Raj to the role of Marketing Director. Raj, who joined the quick-commerce unit in September 2023, takes on the position after serving as General Manager of Marketing. The promotion comes at a time when competition in India’s fast grocery delivery market is growing.

New Responsibility

In her new role, Raj will lead the overall marketing strategy, brand communication, and long-term brand building for Instamart. As General Manager, she managed key areas such as media investments, marketing budgets, and large-scale brand campaigns for the platform and its private-label products.

Reflecting on her professional progression within the quick-commerce entity, Raj indicated that the corporate trajectory has been a substantial and rapid learning experience. "The journey within the company has been one hell of a ride so far," Raj stated in an official communication regarding her promotion. "Stepping into this expanded role brings an opportunity to further deepen brand equity and build out robust strategic frameworks that align with our long-term market objectives."

D2C Experience

The directorial appointment brings a track record of building brand capital within India’s fast-moving consumer technology and direct-to-consumer (D2C) ecosystems. Prior to joining Swiggy Instamart, Raj worked as the Head of Brand Marketing at meat delivery startup TenderCuts, where growth and consumer awareness initiatives were directed by her. Before that stint, she was employed as a Brand Manager at Licious, where she drove national marketing strategies and core product development modules.

Earlier in her professional career, foundational expertise was developed through senior strategy and planning positions at premier advertising agencies, including MullenLowe Lintas Group and R K Swamy BBDO. During these agency tenures, diverse corporate portfolios spanning retail networks, food delivery services, financial institutions, and automotive manufacturing sectors were managed.

Marketing Leadership

The restructuring within Swiggy Instamart's marketing leadership occurs against a backdrop of aggressive capital deployment and customer acquisition wars in the Indian quick-commerce sector. Platforms are moving beyond dark-store expansions to focus heavily on supply chain efficiencies, private labels, and high-frequency consumer retention.

With her deep understanding of both agency-side brand planning and client-side D2C execution, Raj is expected to steer the platform’s narrative away from discount-led customer acquisition toward sustainable, brand-led growth. The primary challenge remains the optimization of marketing spend while safeguarding market share against capitalized rivals in the industry.
