Digital payments company Pine Labs has recorded a 20 percent year on year growth in operating revenue to Rs 737 crore for the Q1 FY27, up from Rs 616 crore reported in the corresponding period of the previous fiscal year.
According to financial disclosures submitted to the NSE, net profit for the quarter recorded a fourfold rise to Rs 20 crore, compared with Rs 5 crore in the year ago period.
On a sequential basis, revenue generated by the merchant platform expanded 5 percent from Rs 701 crore logged during the quarter ended March 2026. Total income for the quarter under review reached Rs 766 crore after including Rs 29 crore derived from non-operating channels, against Rs 653 crore recorded in the same period of the prior year.
Business Profit
Primary operational driver for the business remained the digital infrastructure and transaction platform segment, which generated Rs 499.12 crore in Q1 FY27, representing a 14.9 percent growth year on year. Concurrently, income from the issuing and acquiring platform saw a 31 percent increase to reach Rs 237.8 crore during the same timeframe.
Expense control provided substantial leverage to profitability during the three-month period. Employee benefit expenses remained the largest single expenditure component, representing 36.8 percent of overall costs. However, outlay on employee benefits declined 7.9 percent to Rs 268 crore in Q1 FY27 from Rs 291 crore recorded in Q1 FY26.
Cost Shifting
Other cost categories experienced upward movement during the quarter. Material costs rose 39 percent to Rs 107 crore, while transaction and related operational fees stood at Rs 97 crore, up 61.7 percent from the year ago period. Depreciation charges stood at Rs 73 crore, reflecting a 12.3 percent increase, while other operational expenses grew 10.9 percent to Rs 183 crore.
Total expenditure for the quarter increased 10.6 percent to Rs 728 crore, compared to Rs 658 crore in the corresponding quarter of the previous year.
Due to revenue growth outpacing total expenditure expansion, unit economics registered improvement. The company expended Rs 0.99 to earn every single rupee of operating revenue in Q1 FY27, compared to Rs 1.07 spent per rupee earned in Q1 FY26.
"The financial performance reflects deliberate focus on operational discipline and expansion across key service categories. Margin expansion was driven by controlled workforce expenditure alongside sustained transaction growth across both payment acquiring and digital merchant issuing solutions," stated an official statement representing company leadership while addressing the quarterly results.
Operational trends indicate a shifting financial structure where transaction volumes and platform integration continue to build operating leverage. With sequential revenues showing stability and fixed overheads coming down as a percentage of total income, the merchant technology provider maintains momentum towards sustained operational profitability across domestic and international markets.
