EV Charging Startup Ionage Raises $1.3M in Pre-Series A

Ionage funding

EV charging and energy management startup Ionage has raised $1.3 million in a pre-Series A funding round as it looks to expand its software platform across India’s charging network.

Recent round was backed by strategic investors and a consortium of senior executives from global energy and infrastructure companies. Ionage plans to use the capital to increase its coverage of active charging networks, improve charger discovery and payment services, and support smaller charge point operators.

Bengaluru-based startup said it currently supports more than 25,000 four-wheeler charging points, 63 fleets and 75 charging partners. Its network covers 33 states and Union Territories and nearly 3,000 cities, according to the company.

Ionage Charging Reach

Ionage claims its software is deployed across more than 70% of charging hardware in India and is integrated with major charger manufacturers at the installation stage. The company is seeking to use this network to connect different charging operators rather than make EV users depend on separate applications.

Its platform allows drivers to discover charging points, access services and make payments across participating networks. For charge point operators, the software provides tools to manage stations, monitor charging sessions, track users and control access.

The funding comes as India adds more public charging infrastructure, while operators continue to deal with issues around charger availability and network integration.

Charging Networks Gap

Ionage estimates that nearly two out of five public chargers in India are non-functional at any given time. It has also cited a ratio of one public charger for every 235 EVs in 2025, highlighting the gap between the number of electric vehicles and available charging infrastructure.

The company is targeting this problem through an interoperability layer connecting charging operators, charger manufacturers, property owners and EV users. Its approach focuses on making charging infrastructure accessible through a common software layer.

Ionage co-founder and CEO Vimal Kumar V said, “We’re building the layer that fixes that: the operating system every charger can run on, whoever owns it, so that discoverability and reliability stop being the exception and start being the default.”

Ionage Charging Software

Ionage operates several products for different parts of the charging ecosystem. Its Nexus platform is designed for charge point operators, while the Ionage App allows EV users to locate charging points, plan routes, start charging sessions and make payments.

The startup also operates Flo, a marketplace connecting charging operators with fleet companies. CASA, its home charging and energy management product, is currently listed as being in beta.

Its Discovery API provides charging information for integration into vehicle systems and maps. Ionage also has a software development kit for businesses, although the product is currently in closed beta.

What Is Ionage

Ionage is an EV charging and energy management startup founded by Vimal Kumar V and co-founders, with a business model built around software for charging operators, fleet companies, businesses and EV users. The platform covers public, workplace, commercial and residential charging infrastructure.

Rather than operating only as a charging station owner, Ionage provides software that connects different parts of the charging network. It earns through technology and platform services while helping operators manage charging stations and allowing users to access charging services across networks.

The company is also using artificial intelligence and machine learning for functions such as load balancing and energy management. Over the next 18 months, Ionage plans to support new charge point operator clusters in Tier-II cities, with a focus on smaller operators.

India Builds EV Infra

Domestic public EV charging network has expanded as government programmes and private companies invest in charging infrastructure. The Ministry of Heavy Industries said the country had 52,718 public EV charging stations as of July 2026, including 16,561 stations equipped with fast chargers for cars.

Government support includes the FAME-II programme and PM E-DRIVE scheme. PM E-DRIVE has an allocation of Rs 2,000 crore for public EV charging infrastructure.

Ministry of Power has also issued guidelines aimed at improving connectivity and interoperability between different charging systems and service providers. Ionage is positioning its software within this developing network, with the company targeting monthly energy throughput of at least 20 million units over the next 12 months.

The startup said its business has been growing at 25% or more month-on-month. Its immediate focus is on expanding coverage, bringing smaller charging operators onto its platform and increasing access to existing charging infrastructure rather than only adding new physical charging stations.
