ThinkMetal Raises Rs 27 Cr Funding Led by IAN Alpha Fund

ThinkMetal funding

Advanced materials and manufacturing startup ThinkMetal has raised Rs 27 crore in a funding round led by IAN Alpha Fund, as the company moves to expand its product development and industrial business.

The round also saw participation from 3i Partners and existing investors. ThinkMetal plans to use the capital for product development, research and development, and wider adoption of its manufacturing technology among industrial customers.

Startup is developing technologies for precision metal manufacturing, with a focus on reducing production time and dependence on imported manufacturing systems and materials. Its customers and target markets include aerospace, defence, space, automotive and electric mobility.

ThinkMetal Manufacturing

ThinkMetal was founded by Sabyasachi Ghosh and Arushi Sharma in the year of 2021. The company is building a manufacturing platform that combines materials, production processes and industrial systems for making precision metal components.

Its current commercial product is SistemT1, a metal additive manufacturing system. The system uses ThinkMetal proprietary FuseX metal filament technology to produce metal parts.

The company is also working on expanding its materials library. Alongside the development of its core manufacturing system, it is building in-house capabilities to process additional materials for different industrial applications.

Industrial Adoption Increases

ThinkMetal has moved beyond the technology development stage and is now working with manufacturers through enterprise pilots. The company is targeting larger commercial deployments as industrial customers evaluate its technology for production requirements.

Startup is seeking adoption in sectors where precision components and manufacturing speed are important. Aerospace, defence and space applications form part of its target market, along with automotive and electric mobility.

According to IAN Alpha Fund, ThinkMetal has filed more than 17 intellectual property applications. The filings cover technologies developed as part of its work in advanced materials and manufacturing.

Tech Targets Costs

ThinkMetal claims its manufacturing technology can produce high-value precision metal components up to 10 times faster than conventional methods and at about half the cost. These figures are claims made by the company and have not been independently verified.

The latest funding is expected to support further development of the technology as ThinkMetal moves from pilot projects towards wider industrial deployment. The company is also expected to spend on research related to new materials and manufacturing applications.

For industrial customers, the wider use of additive manufacturing can depend on factors such as component quality, production speed, material availability and the ability to integrate new systems into existing manufacturing processes. ThinkMetal is attempting to address these areas through its combined hardware and materials approach.

About ThinkMetal

ThinkMetal is an advanced materials and manufacturing startup founded by Sabyasachi Ghosh and Arushi Sharma. The company is building indigenous technologies for precision metal manufacturing rather than relying entirely on imported equipment and processes.

The startup operates through a business-to-business model, supplying manufacturing technology to industrial customers. Its SistemT1 system is currently its commercial offering, while its work on FuseX metal filament technology and additional materials is aimed at expanding the range of components and applications it can support.

The company was founded to work on the intersection of advanced materials and manufacturing systems. Its business is now moving from technology development and enterprise pilots towards larger commercial deployments across industrial sectors.

Industrial Base

Recent Rs 27 crore investment gives ThinkMetal additional capital at a stage when it is seeking to move its technology into broader industrial use. The participation of IAN Alpha Fund, 3i Partners and existing investors also provides the company with backing as it expands its product and materials capabilities.

Company immediate focus remains on research, product development and customer adoption. How quickly the company can convert its enterprise pilots into larger commercial orders will determine the next phase of its manufacturing business.
