Apple TV+ Raises Subscription Prices Again in US

Apple TV+ price hike US

Apple has raised subscription prices for its Apple TV+ streaming service again, making the platform more expensive for customers in the United States. The latest increase comes as streaming companies continue to adjust prices and look for ways to improve revenue from their growing content businesses.

The standalone Apple TV+ monthly plan now costs $14.99, compared with the earlier price of $12.99. The annual plan also becomes more expensive, rising to $119 from $99. The latest change gives subscribers another reason to review how much they spend on streaming services each month.

Apple Raises Subscription Costs

Price increase also affects the Apple One Individual bundle. Its monthly price moves from $19.95 to $21.95. Apple One combines several Apple services into a single subscription, making the Individual plan another part of the latest pricing change.

Apple One Family and Premier plans do not receive another increase in this revision. Apple had already changed prices for some of its services and bundles during earlier pricing updates, making the latest Apple TV+ increase part of a wider pattern of subscription adjustments.

Revised prices apply immediately to new Apple TV+ customers in affected markets. Existing subscribers receive notification around 30 days before their next billing renewal, giving them time to review the new charges before the higher price is applied.

Increase is not limited to the US. Apple also introduces the revised pricing in selected Latin American markets, including Brazil, Chile and Mexico. Pricing and changes can differ between countries, so customers outside the US may see different subscription rates.

Streaming Market Keeps Changing

Apple TV+ launches in 2019 with a monthly price of $4.99, offering a relatively low-cost entry into Apple’s original streaming service. Since then, the company has expanded its content library with original television shows, films and live sports.

The platform has built a reputation around premium original programming rather than a very large catalogue. Apple has invested heavily in high-profile productions and continues to compete with established streaming services such as Netflix, Disney+ and Prime Video.

One important difference is Apple TV+ continues to operate without an ad-supported subscription tier. Several major streaming companies have introduced cheaper plans that include advertising as they look for additional revenue and ways to attract price-sensitive customers.

Apple instead continues to rely on direct subscription payments. Raising prices allows the company to increase revenue per subscriber without introducing advertisements into Apple TV+ content.

Why Apple Increasing Prices

Apple is likely balancing the rising cost of producing and acquiring premium content with the need to improve the economics of its streaming business. High-profile films, television productions and live sports can require significant investment, while maintaining a global streaming platform also involves technology and distribution costs.

The company does not depend only on Apple TV+ for its services revenue. Apple One bundles can encourage customers to subscribe to several services together, potentially making the ecosystem more valuable even when the price of an individual service increases.

Apple TV+ continues to build its value around exclusive content. Its strategy is different from platforms that depend mainly on a huge back catalogue. Instead, Apple focuses on original series, feature films and selected live sports to give subscribers reasons to remain on the platform.

For consumers, the latest increase also highlights a broader change in the streaming market. Services that once competed mainly through low introductory prices are increasingly raising subscription costs as the industry moves towards sustainable revenue models.

The higher Apple TV+ price means subscribers now have to compare the service with other entertainment options more closely. Customers who already pay for multiple streaming platforms may decide whether Apple TV+ still offers enough value for the higher monthly or annual cost.

For Apple, the challenge will be maintaining subscriber interest while increasing prices. The company will need to keep adding popular content and maintaining strong viewer engagement if it wants customers to accept further subscription increases in the future.
