Airtel Partners with Nokia to Launch Green 5G for Sustainable Networks

Share post:

Bharti Airtel, one of India’s leading telecom companies, has teamed up with Nokia to launch a new initiative called “Green 5G.” This partnership focuses on introducing energy-efficient solutions and practices across Airtel’s mobile networks to reduce carbon emissions and promote sustainability. By using advanced technologies such as AI, Machine Learning (ML), and specialized software, Airtel aims to make its 4G and 5G Radio Access Networks (RAN) more energy efficient.

Reducing Carbon Emissions

The Green 5G project will help Airtel use less energy during both peak and off-peak hours, thanks to innovative software solutions developed by Nokia. These solutions will improve how Airtel’s network manages its energy use, cutting down on the overall power consumption.

The joint effort is expected to reduce Airtel’s carbon footprint by a significant 143,413 metric tons of CO2 each year. This reduction will help Airtel contribute to the global push for more environmentally friendly and sustainable mobile networks.

Airtel Commitment to Sustainability

Airtel’s Chief Technology Officer, Randeep Sekhon, expressed the company’s dedication to sustainability: “With the rapid expansion of mobile networks and the introduction of 5G in India, there is a growing need for energy-efficient solutions. Airtel is committed to reducing its impact on the environment, and our partnership with Nokia will help us achieve our sustainability goals while continuing to provide high-quality services to our customers.”

Airtel’s collaboration with Nokia aligns with its business strategy of balancing network expansion and environmental responsibility. The use of advanced technologies ensures that the company can meet the increasing demand for data services while keeping its energy consumption in check.

Nokia’s Role in Sustainable Networks

Nokia is playing a key role in this initiative. According to Tarun Chhabra, Head of Mobile Networks at Nokia India, the company is excited to partner with Airtel in this mission. “Nokia has set a global goal of achieving net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2040, and this partnership with Airtel is part of that journey. Our technology will help reduce energy consumption in telecommunications networks, making them more efficient and sustainable,” said Chhabra.

Airtel Nokia Partnership

Nokia’s innovative approach will not only improve the performance of Airtel’s mobile networks but will also significantly contribute to reducing energy usage. This partnership represents a meaningful step toward greener telecommunications networks.

Airtel Nokia Partnership

The Airtel-Nokia partnership highlights the growing importance of sustainability in the telecom industry. By combining cutting-edge technologies with energy-efficient solutions, both companies are setting an example for how mobile networks can evolve while reducing their environmental impact. As the world moves towards a more sustainable future, initiatives like Green 5G will be crucial in helping industries reduce their carbon emissions and promote responsible energy use.
