X Cuts Subscription Fees in India by Up to 48%

Share post:

X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter, has sharply reduced subscription fees for its Indian users. Monthly and annual charges for all account levels have been slashed by up to 48%. This major price drop aims to encourage more users in India to try paid features, helping X grow its revenue and user base in one of its largest global markets.

The biggest discount is on the Premium plan for mobile users. It now costs Rs 470 per month, compared to the earlier Rs 900. This is a 48% price cut. If users choose to subscribe through the web, they pay only Rs 427 per month, down from Rs 650, a 34% drop.

App Fees Still Apply

X explains the difference in prices between mobile and web platforms is due to app store commissions. This difference is standard practice across global markets. The Premium plan gives users a verified checkmark, better visibility, and access to exclusive tools not available to free users.

Under Elon Musk’s leadership, X is shifting focus towards monetization. These price cuts are part of that broader push to make paid features more attractive, especially in markets like India where affordability is key to growth.

Basic Tier Sees Cuts Too

Users on the Basic subscription plan will also benefit. The monthly fee has dropped from Rs 243.75 to Rs 170, a 30% reduction. The annual fee now stands at Rs 1,700, instead of Rs 2,590.48, a 34% discount.

Basic subscribers can enjoy features such as editing posts, longer content writing, video downloading, and background playback. These changes are designed to improve the user experience while still keeping the service affordable.

Premium Plus Becomes Affordable

Even the highest plan, Premium Plus, has seen a significant price cut. This tier offers an ad-free experience, access to long-form content, and use of SuperGrok, the platform’s AI assistant powered by Grok 4.

On the web, Premium Plus is now Rs 2,570 per month instead of Rs 3,470. For mobile users, the price has dropped from Rs 5,100 to Rs 3,000. This shows X’s commitment to offering advanced tools at lower costs, hoping to draw in serious creators and tech-savvy users.

Social Media Impact in India

India is one of the largest user bases for X, making it a prime market for expansion. The lower prices are expected to attract new subscribers from tier 2 and tier 3 cities. As X continues to evolve into an “everything app” with AI tools, video features, and revenue options, pricing adjustments are crucial.

This move may also influence pricing decisions across the broader social media industry. Other platforms might follow X’s lead in lowering fees for emerging markets. With rising digital adoption, India could play a key role in shaping the future of paid social experiences.
