McDonald’s India North & East has recently joined the Indian government-backed Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC) network, allowing its menu to be accessible across various ONDC buyers’ applications. This move signifies a significant step towards revolutionizing digital commerce in the country.
Rajeev Ranjan, Managing Director of McDonald’s India – North and East, expressed their commitment to providing high-quality food quickly and with a smile using ONDC’s technologically enabled platform. This integration marks a monumental milestone in ONDC’s journey to transform digital commerce nationwide, according to T Koshy, MD, and CEO of ONDC.
The ONDC platform, supported by the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), aims to open up digital commerce networks, enabling greater participation by small businesses. It offers relatively cheaper options for food delivery, presenting a competitive edge in the market.
McDonald’s, with over 200 outlets across North and East India, operates through various formats, including freestanding restaurants, drive-thrus, and McDelivery. By joining ONDC, McDonald’s aims to better serve its customers and expand its digital reach.
The addition of McDonald’s to the ONDC network follows the inclusion of Domino’s Pizza earlier this year, indicating a growing trend of established brands leveraging ONDC to enhance their digital commerce capabilities.
What is ONDC network?
Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC) is a government-backed initiative in India aimed at revolutionizing digital commerce in the country. It is supported by the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) and seeks to unbundle existing closed networks of digital commerce, allowing greater participation by small businesses.
What does ONDC offers?
With its relatively cheaper options for food delivery and government support, ONDC offers businesses an opportunity to reach a wider customer base while operating within a regulated environment. By leveraging ONDC, businesses can enhance their digital commerce capabilities, offer affordable products and services to consumers, and contribute to the growth of the digital economy.
