Meesho Acquires B2B Platform Kirana Club in Rs 202 Cr Deal

Meesho acquires Kirana Club

Ecommerce marketplace Meesho has finalized the acquisition of Kirana Club, a community-focused business-to-business (B2B) commerce platform, for an approximate transaction value of Rs 202 crore. Following the acquisition, Kirana Club will maintain its independent operations as a subsidiary within the Meesho group, while the existing leadership team remains at the helm to oversee day-to-day business activities.

Deepening Retail

Fresh business move allows Meesho, which currently leads the Indian e-commerce market in terms of annual transacting users and order volumes, to secure a firmer foothold in the domestic grocery sector. India’s grocery market is valued at an estimated $658 billion, with traditional kirana stores and general trade channels commanding over 91% of the total market share. Through this transaction, Meesho gains immediate access to a network of small retailers and opens up avenues for broader B2B operations across multiple product categories.

The transaction structure ensures a complete exit for all existing institutional investors in Kirana Club. However, operational continuity is preserved as the founding team will continue to lead the platform's growth strategies under the new corporate umbrella.

Rural Retailing

"At Meesho, we have always believed that technology can expand access and opportunity for underserved users across India," said Vidit Aatrey, Chairman, Managing Director, and CEO of Meesho.

"Kirana Club has built deep trust among small retailers through its asset-light and community-first approach. We see significant opportunities to strengthen access, transparency and product discovery for kiranas in underserved markets across India, and also extend this to all forms of B2B retail across India."

The unorganized retail ecosystem in India face persistent supply chain challenges. Millions of kirana merchants operating across Tier-III, Tier-IV, and rural regions frequently deal with fragmented sourcing channels, inadequate product assortments, and non-transparent pricing mechanisms.

Kirana Club addresses these systemic inefficiencies through a mobile-first digital platform. The application allows independent retailers to discover, compare, and source fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) directly. Additionally, the platform features community-driven elements, enabling store owners to engage with peers, share regional pricing insights, participate in product discussions, and track distribution schemes in local regional languages. The platform currently claims a registered user base of over four million pan India retailers.

The integration with Meesho is projected to improve the operational efficiencies of the B2B platform. By tapping into the parent entity's established national logistics network, deep supplier base, and digital marketplace infrastructure, Kirana Club aims to broaden its product category coverage. The combined backend operations are also expected to optimize fulfillment economics and lower the costs associated with acquiring new merchants in remote geographic locations.
