A week after a passenger on an Air India flight from Bangalore to San Francisco found a blade-like metal piece in his food, the airline confirmed the presence of a “foreign object” in the food. The incident occurred onboard a long-haul flight and has raised concerns about food safety.
According to an Air India statement, the foreign object originated from the vegetable processing machine used by their catering partner. “Air India confirms that a foreign object was found in the meal of a guest aboard one of our flights. After investigation, it has been identified as coming from the vegetable processing machine used at the facilities of our catering partner,” stated Rajesh Dogra, Air India Chief Customer Experience Officer.
This incident is the second recent report involving food on Air India’s long-haul flights. Another passenger on a New Delhi to Newark flight previously complained about being served uncooked food.
Details of the Incident
The blade-like metal piece was discovered by a passenger in his food during a meal service on the Bangalore-San Francisco flight. The passenger immediately reported the issue to the flight crew, who took the necessary steps to address the situation. Upon landing, Air India initiated an investigation to determine the source of the foreign object.
Air India’s Response
Air India has taken the incident seriously and has conducted a thorough investigation. The airline traced the foreign object to the vegetable processing machine used by their catering partner. Air India has assured passengers that they are working closely with their catering partner to ensure such incidents do not happen in the future.
“Air India is committed to providing safe and quality meals to our passengers. We have reviewed our processes and are implementing additional measures to prevent such occurrences. We apologize for any inconvenience caused to our passengers,” Rajesh Dogra added.
Previous Incidents
This incident follows another food-related complaint on Air India’s New Delhi-Newark flight, where a passenger reported being served uncooked food. These back-to-back incidents have prompted Air India to reassess their catering operations and implement stricter quality controls.
Moving Forward
Air India is focusing on enhancing its food safety standards and ensuring passenger satisfaction. The airline is working on strengthening its collaboration with catering partners to maintain high standards of food safety and quality. Regular inspections and audits of catering facilities are being planned to prevent similar incidents in the future.
By addressing these issues promptly and transparently, Air India aims to rebuild trust with its passengers and ensure a safe and pleasant flying experience.
