Unmarried Couples Check-In? Not Anymore at OYO!

OYO, a popular hospitality company led by Ritesh Agarwal, has introduced new check-in rules for its partner hotels in Meerut, Uttar Pradesh. The new policy requires unmarried couples to show valid proof of their relationship before they are allowed to check in. This rule applies to both online and offline bookings, giving hotels the option to refuse entry based on local social norms and expectations.

Reason Behind the Policy Change

OYO stated that the decision to implement this policy comes after receiving feedback from civil society groups, especially in Meerut. These groups raised concerns about what they described as “unacceptable practices” in the hospitality industry. Some residents in other cities also requested that unmarried couples be prevented from checking in. In response to these concerns, OYO has launched the revised guidelines to align with local customs and values while still aiming to provide a safe and responsible hospitality experience.

Freedom and Local Expectations

While OYO acknowledges the importance of individual freedom and personal choices, the company also emphasizes its responsibility to work closely with local law enforcement and community groups. Pawas Sharma, the Region Head for OYO North India, explained that the company will regularly review the impact of this policy and is open to making further changes if needed. OYO’s goal is to maintain a balance between respecting individual rights and meeting local expectations.

In addition to addressing local concerns, OYO is positioning itself as a family-friendly brand that offers safe accommodations for all types of travelers, including families, students, and business professionals. Initiatives for Safe Hospitality Practices

As part of its strategy to improve hospitality standards, OYO has begun organizing seminars on responsible hospitality practices. These seminars involve discussions with police officials and partner hotels to ensure that they comply with local laws and prioritize customer safety. OYO is also working to prevent immoral activities by blacklisting hotels suspected of such behavior and taking action against unauthorized establishments using its brand name without proper affiliation.

The company’s efforts to maintain a safe and responsible hospitality environment are part of its larger strategy to provide quality services to all customers while adhering to local norms and regulations. OYO continues to focus on building trust with its customers and ensuring that all travelers feel secure and respected during their stays.
