Faridabad-based biomaterials startup Ukhi has successfully raised $1.2 million in a pre-seed funding round to push forward its mission of creating sustainable packaging solutions. The funding includes equity investments from 100Unicorns, Venture Catalysts, and angel investor Avtar Monga, along with debt funding from the Small Industries Development Bank of India (SIDBI).

Expanding Production and Research

Ukhi plans to use the funds to increase production capacity, advance research into new sustainable biomaterials, and build a global presence for its eco-friendly packaging products.

Founded in 2019 by Priyanka Chauhan, Vishal Vivek, and Sundeep Kumar Tyagi, Ukhi specializes in turning agricultural residues into biodegradable materials. Their patent-pending technology converts lignocellulosic agricultural waste into compostable materials, offering a viable alternative to traditional plastic.

Addressing Plastic Pollution

Ukhi is tackling two major challenges in India: plastic pollution and crop burning. By using agricultural waste as raw materials, the startup not only reduces pollution but also helps farmers find a sustainable use for crop residues.

The company operates out of Haryana and Uttarakhand and provides eco-friendly packaging solutions for industries like food and retail. Their innovative products align with the growing demand for environmentally friendly packaging, helping businesses lower their carbon footprints while meeting strict environmental regulations.

Vision for Green Future

Ukhi’s approach supports the global shift toward sustainability. By replacing harmful plastics with biodegradable options, the startup aims to play a key role in reducing waste and promoting sustainable practices.

With this funding, Ukhi is set to expand its reach and continue developing cutting-edge solutions that benefit both businesses and the environment. The startup is poised to make a significant impact in the fight against plastic pollution while contributing to a greener, more sustainable future.
