Biogas technology company Sistema.bio has secured USD 15 million in a new funding round led by ElectriFI, managed by EDFI Management Company. The round included participation from several existing investors, including Chroma Impact Investment, KawiSafi Ventures, and AXA IM Alts. This latest investment will help Sistema.bio enhance its technology, scale its operations, and improve customer service worldwide.

Expansion to Benefit Farmers

Founded in 2010, Sistema.bio is committed to helping farmers convert animal waste into renewable energy and organic fertilizer through advanced biogas digesters. The company’s innovative solutions have a dual focus on reducing carbon emissions and boosting agricultural productivity. The new investment will allow Sistema.bio to continue its mission of fighting the climate crisis and ensuring food security.

Alexander Eaton, the CEO and co-founder of Sistema.bio, expressed his gratitude for the investors’ trust. He stated, “This investment allows us to engage millions of farmers in fighting climate change and empowering one million farmers by 2025. We aim to reduce 1% of global emissions by 2030.”

Scaling Operations

With this new funding, Sistema.bio plans to further expand its operations in Asia, Africa, and Latin America, where it already has a strong presence. The company has installed over 100,000 biogas units in over 35 countries, impacting over 100,000 farms and benefiting more than 600,000 people globally. The biogas units provide clean energy for cooking and electricity and produce biofertilizer that boosts agricultural productivity.

Joyce Chacho, Independent Board Chair at Sistema.bio, said, “This investment shows our investors’ confidence in scaling our transformative impact across the regions we serve.”

Global Impact on Clean Energy

Sistema.bio is focused on carbon mitigation and climate adaptation, using IoT-powered Measurement, Reporting, and Verification (MRV) programs to ensure the effectiveness of its solutions. The company’s work has led to the reduction of over 1 million tons of CO2 emissions annually.

Liesbet Mijlemans, Senior Investment Officer at EDFI, emphasized the company’s high-impact solutions. “Sistema.bio consistently delivers scalable solutions that provide clean energy and resilience in underserved regions,” she said.
