Ola Electric has announced another delay in the delivery of its much-awaited Roadster X electric motorcycle. Originally set for March 2025 and then shifted to April, the deliveries are now expected to begin in May 2025. The company revealed this update through a late-night filing on April 30, raising more doubts about its operational capacity and sales claims.
The new delay comes at a time when Ola Electric is already facing questions from government agencies regarding how it reports sales. The company had earlier claimed that the first batch of Roadster X motorcycles was ready at its Futurefactory in Tamil Nadu. However, customers are still waiting for their deliveries. This marks the second time in two months that Ola has postponed the launch.
Ola Roadster X Still Not Delivered Despite February Unveiling
The Roadster X was introduced to the public on February 5, 2025. It was promoted as the fastest electric motorcycle in its category and was set to enter the market by mid-March. However, it later came to light that the motorcycle had not completed the mandatory homologation process. Without this approval, vehicles cannot be registered or legally delivered to customers in India.
Even though the Roadster X is yet to reach customers, Ola Electric has included its pre-bookings in official sales data. In a letter to the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways dated March 21, Ola disclosed that it counted 1,395 confirmed orders in its February sales numbers. These vehicles had not been delivered or registered, which sparked concerns about the accuracy of Ola’s sales disclosures.
Government and SEBI Investigating Ola’s Sales Claims
Multiple government bodies, including the Ministry of Heavy Industries and the Ministry of Road Transport, are reviewing Ola’s reporting practices. Additionally, SEBI is also investigating the company for possibly overstating sales figures in public filings. The core issue lies in the mismatch between claimed orders and actual vehicle registrations in government databases.
Although the Roadster X is being offered in three battery versions—2.5 kWh, 3.5 kWh, and 4.5 kWh—priced between Rs 74,999 and Rs 94,999, these repeated delays could impact customer trust. Ola had earlier defended its numbers, stating that only paid bookings were included in its reports. However, the absence of deliveries despite these claims is creating more doubts.
Uncertain Future for Ola Roadster X Launch
As Ola Electric tries to build its position in India’s growing electric vehicle market, the Roadster X delays and ongoing investigations could become major setbacks. While May 2025 is the new delivery target, no fixed date has been announced, leaving buyers and investors uncertain about what to expect next.
