Paytm Launches Personalised UPI IDs for Better Privacy

Share post:

Fintech company Paytm has launched a new feature that lets users create personalised UPI IDs. This move aims to improve privacy and give users more control over their digital payment identity. With this update, people can create custom UPI handles like name@ptyes or name@ptaxis instead of using their phone numbers as their UPI address.

The update is especially useful for those who want to keep their mobile number private while making payments. Now, users can receive money through their custom UPI ID without revealing their personal contact details. This is helpful during daily transactions at shops, paying gig workers, or even while sending money to friends and family.

Starting with Two Banks

As of now, this feature works through Yes Bank and Axis Bank handles on Paytm. The company has confirmed that more banks will be added soon, making the feature widely available to all users in the coming months.

Setting up a personalised UPI ID on the Paytm app is a simple process. Users need to open the app, go to their profile, choose UPI Settings, and then click on Manage UPI ID. From there, they can select a custom handle such as their name and activate it as their main UPI ID for future payments.

New Feature Based on Feedback

According to a Paytm spokesperson, the feature was developed based on direct feedback from users. Many customers said they did not feel comfortable sharing their mobile numbers during transactions. Paytm took that seriously and built this tool to offer more privacy and personalisation.

This new feature is part of a bigger effort by Paytm to improve the overall user experience. The company has also added tools like the ability to hide or unhide transactions, alerts for incoming money, and auto top-up options for small payments using Paytm UPI Lite. Users can now also download their UPI statements in both PDF and Excel formats.

International UPI Use Expands

At the same time, Paytm is expanding its UPI services internationally. Indian users can now use Paytm UPI in seven countries including the UAE, Singapore, France, Mauritius, Bhutan, Sri Lanka, and Nepal, giving travellers more payment freedom abroad.

With personalised UPI IDs, Paytm is taking a step forward in offering users safe, flexible, and private digital payments.
