E-commerce giant Flipkart has launched its quick commerce service, Flipkart Minutes, for customers in Gurugram and other parts of the National Capital Region (NCR). The service, which is yet to be officially announced by the company, was first reported by Entrackr. Flipkart Minutes is now available in popular locations like Unitech Cyber Park, Sector 39, Sector 40, The Millennium City Centre (Sector 29), and Golf Course Road (Sector 54) in Gurugram.
Minutes Expands to New Locations
The report also suggests that Flipkart is gradually extending its service to Mumbai, with some users already able to access it. This indicates that the company is currently testing the waters before a broader rollout. Flipkart Minutes offers quick deliveries in as little as 10-16 minutes, catering to a range of products including groceries, electronics, and smartphones.
Flipkart’s Quick Commerce Strategy
The launch of Flipkart Minutes comes after the company decided not to pursue a significant stake in Zepto, a quick commerce platform led by Aadit Palicha. According to reports, Zepto opted to seek additional funding and focus on preparing for an Initial Public Offering (IPO) rather than a strategic sale.
Quick Commerce Competitors
Flipkart’s entry into quick commerce places it in direct competition with existing players such as Zepto, Zomato-owned Blinkit, and Swiggy Instamart. These companies have already captured a considerable portion of the market, drawing sales away from traditional e-commerce platforms like Flipkart and Amazon.
While Flipkart offers same-day delivery for many products, the demand for even quicker services has been increasing, particularly in urban areas like Bengaluru. Flipkart Minutes first launched in areas such as HSR Layout, Gunjur, Bellandur, and Kadubeesanahalli in Bengaluru last month.
Future Expansion Plans
Flipkart’s Vice President and Head of Grocery, Hari Kumar G., believes that both quick commerce and next-day delivery models can coexist. The company plans to expand Flipkart Minutes to more locations based on demand, though it may not be available in every city immediately.
Meanwhile, Zomato-owned Blinkit continues to dominate the quick commerce market, while Zepto has been steadily increasing its market share, growing from 15% in 2022 to 30% in 2024. Both companies plan further expansion, with Blinkit aiming to increase its dark store network to 2,000 by 2026, while Zepto plans to expand its network to 700 by March 2025.
