Uttar Pradesh: Government Launches Scheme to Upgrade Closed Cinema Halls

Share post:

The Uttar Pradesh government has introduced a new scheme aimed at reviving closed cinema halls and upgrading existing ones across the state. This initiative was approved during a cabinet meeting led by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. The “Integrated Incentive Scheme” focuses on encouraging the construction of multiplexes in districts that currently do not have them, as well as modernizing single-screen cinemas. The scheme will be in effect for five years, aiming to enhance the entertainment infrastructure in the state.

Financial Support Through SGST

State Finance and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Suresh Khanna explained that the incentive scheme will provide financial assistance for the reconstruction and remodeling of closed single-screen cinema halls. Additionally, it will support operational cinema halls looking to upgrade their facilities and the construction of new multiplexes. The funding will come from the State Goods and Services Tax (SGST) deposited by these cinemas, which means the scheme won’t add extra financial strain on the state government.

IT-Enabled Services Get Industry Status

In another significant move, the Uttar Pradesh government has decided to grant industry status to the Information Technology (IT) and IT-enabled services (ITES) sectors. Minister Suresh Khanna emphasized that this step will promote the rapid growth of these sectors in the state. By granting industry status, IT and ITES companies will have access to land categorized for industrial use at competitive rates, making it easier for these sectors to expand.

Boosting IT Sector Development

With this reform, the government aims to help IT and ITES companies obtain land in Residential and Industrial Development Authorities at industrial rates. This will facilitate the availability of land to companies in the sector, enabling them to grow and contribute to the state’s economy. The reforms are expected to create more opportunities for businesses and boost employment in the IT sector.

The Uttar Pradesh government’s new schemes are set to enhance both the entertainment and IT sectors in the state. By reviving cinema halls and promoting the IT industry, the state is positioning itself for significant economic growth and development.
