India’s quick commerce industry is set to create half a million blue-collar jobs by 2027, according to a survey by Indeed, a job-matching platform. Out of the 2.43 million blue-collar workers needed across various industries, quick commerce is emerging as a key driver of employment growth.
In the last quarter of 2024, the quick commerce sector hired around 40,000 workers to manage increased festive shopping and e-commerce demand. Roles like delivery drivers, retail staff, warehouse associates, and logistics coordinators are in high demand to support the fast-paced operations of this growing industry.
Job Opportunities in India
Tier I cities such as Bangalore, Mumbai, Delhi, Chennai, and Pune are leading in hiring activity for quick commerce jobs. However, Tier 2 cities like Chandigarh and Ahmedabad are also witnessing a rise in job creation, showcasing the expansion of quick commerce into smaller urban centers.
Sashi Kumar, Head of Sales at Indeed India, said, “Quick commerce has turned the dream of 10-minute deliveries into a reality. It is creating careers and offering long-term employment that supports millions of families.”
Jobs Growth in Other Sectors
While quick commerce is at the forefront of job creation, other sectors like logistics, manufacturing, and traditional e-commerce are also seeing an increase in demand for blue-collar workers. However, the quick commerce industry stands out for its reliance on technology, which allows for rapid hiring and training, especially during peak seasons.
The survey emphasized the need for skill development to meet the future demands of the quick commerce sector. Employers are prioritizing skills such as driving, digital literacy, data analysis, management, and tech support. The adoption of automation and digital tools is also shaping the skills required for these roles.
To bridge skill gaps, many companies are investing in training programs. These programs focus on technology adoption, customer service, and operations management, ensuring workers are prepared for a tech-driven environment. Workers in this sector are also finding opportunities for career growth, with delivery drivers advancing to managerial roles and warehouse staff taking on leadership positions.
Competitive Salaries and Perks
Quick commerce companies are offering competitive salaries and incentives to attract and retain workers. The average monthly salary for roles like delivery drivers and retail staff is around ₹22,600. During peak seasons, workers can earn additional bonuses. Non-monetary perks, such as smartphones and referral rewards, are also being provided to enhance job satisfaction.
Looking ahead, nearly 50% of employers across 14 sectors plan to continue hiring blue-collar workers, with quick commerce remaining a major contributor to job growth. Seasonal roles are evolving into long-term career opportunities as companies focus on sustainable employment strategies.
While automation and AI will streamline some tasks, the human workforce will remain essential to the quick commerce sector. Companies are committed to creating skilled, tech-enabled workers who can adapt to the changing demands of the industry.
