Google’s Gemini AI App Hits 400 Million Monthly Users

Share post:

Google CEO Sundar Pichai has revealed that the Gemini AI app now has over 400 million monthly active users. Speaking at the Google I/O 2025 conference, he highlighted the rapid growth of the Gemini platform, especially with the 2.5 series of AI models. This rise shows strong user interest and deeper engagement with the app’s evolving AI capabilities.

According to Pichai, more than seven million developers are now building with Gemini—five times higher than the previous year. Usage of Gemini on Google Cloud’s Vertex AI has jumped 40 times year-on-year. For those using Gemini 2.5 Pro within the app, user activity has increased by 45 percent, reflecting strong interest from both consumers and developers.

Token Processing Skyrockets

Pichai shared that Google is now processing over 480 trillion tokens each month across its AI products and APIs. Just a year ago, that number stood at 9.7 trillion. This remarkable increase points to a major leap in the scale and impact of AI in Google’s services.

Google’s AI Overviews, launched last year, have now reached 1.5 billion users and are available in over 200 countries. In key markets like India and the U.S., AI Overviews are helping boost query types by over 10 percent, with growth continuing steadily.

New AI Mode Launches

Pichai also announced the introduction of “AI Mode” in Google Search. This new feature offers a complete AI-powered search experience, allowing users to ask longer and more complex questions. Early users are making queries that are up to three times longer than traditional searches and are exploring deeper with follow-up questions.

To improve reasoning abilities, Google is enhancing Gemini 2.5 Pro with a new feature called “Deep Think.” This mode uses advanced research in parallel and logical thinking, offering smarter and faster responses. Gemini 2.5 will also be integrated into Search in the U.S. starting this week.

This marks a major step in Google’s journey to make AI more powerful and accessible for users around the world.
