Akasa Air has officially launched its first flight service between Delhi and Darbhanga, providing a major boost to air connectivity in North Bihar. The flight departed from Delhi Airport at 9:00 a.m. and landed in Darbhanga at 10:55 a.m. The return flight from Darbhanga took off at 11:30 a.m. and reached Delhi by 1:25 p.m., with a total travel time of around 1 hour and 55 minutes.
Delhi-Darbhanga Air Route Begins Operations
The launch of the Delhi-Darbhanga flight marks a key development for travellers, businesspeople, and students commuting between Bihar and the national capital. The first set of passengers was warmly welcomed at Darbhanga Airport by Bihar’s Revenue and Land Reforms Minister Sanjay Saraogi. He also handed over boarding passes to passengers leaving for Delhi, celebrating the beginning of this important route.
The airline’s entry into Darbhanga is expected to make air travel more affordable and accessible for the region. With this new service, the Delhi-Darbhanga flight fares have dropped significantly. Earlier, prices reached as high as Rs 15,000 to Rs 20,000. Now, tickets are available at much lower rates, with pre-booked tickets ranging between Rs 4,200 and Rs 4,400. The lowest fare so far has been Rs 2,700, which is great news for budget-conscious travellers.
Mumbai to Darbhanga Flight Expected Soon
Akasa Air’s director has assured that plans are underway to start Mumbai to Darbhanga flights in the near future. This would further strengthen Darbhanga’s position as a key aviation hub for North Bihar. More airline services will also bring competition, which is likely to improve service quality and reduce ticket prices.
Currently, IndiGo, SpiceJet, and now Akasa Air are operating flights from Darbhanga, helping the airport connect with major metro cities such as Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, and Hyderabad.
Modi Govt Pushes Regional Air Connectivity
The central government under Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been focusing on improving regional air connectivity. Darbhanga Airport has received special attention as the main gateway to North Bihar. The civil enclave at Darbhanga Airport was inaugurated by PM Modi in October last year at a cost of Rs 910 crore.
The 2025 Union Budget also announced three new greenfield airports in Bihar to enhance connectivity. Expansion of Patna’s Jay Prakash Narayan Airport is almost complete, and a new terminal will be inaugurated soon. Bihta and Purnea airports are also in development, aimed at improving air access in different parts of the state.
With increasing airline operations and infrastructure upgrades, Bihar’s aviation sector is set for major growth, improving travel, tourism, and economic opportunities for its people.
