Amazon India’s Global Selling program is set to reach $13 billion in cumulative e-commerce exports by the end of 2024, according to Bhupen Wakankar, Director of Global Trade at Amazon India. This initiative, launched in 2015, has already enabled the sale of over 40 crore Made in India products to customers worldwide. The program’s success has pushed Amazon closer to its goal of $20 billion in exports by 2025.

Doubling the Export Target

When the Global Selling program started, Amazon set a goal of achieving $10 billion in exports from Indian small and medium businesses (SMBs) by 2025. However, in 2020, Amazon doubled that target to $20 billion. By the end of 2024, the company will have already reached $13 billion, showing strong progress toward its goal. “We are happy to report that we will achieve this milestone ahead of schedule,” said Wakankar.

Growth in Seller Participation

Over the past year, around 50,000 new sellers have joined the Global Selling program, bringing the total number of sellers to 1.50 lakh. These sellers have collectively shipped more than 40 crore products to customers in countries like the US, UK, UAE, Canada, and Germany. Sellers from more than 200 cities in India have participated, taking advantage of the platform to reach global markets.

Amazon Global Selling offers Indian sellers the opportunity to reach hundreds of millions of customers across more than 18 global marketplaces. This program has created a level playing field, allowing sellers from across India to access markets in countries such as Australia, Italy, Spain, and Saudi Arabia, among others.

Growth Categories and Markets

The Exports Digest 2024 report highlights significant growth in certain product categories. Beauty products saw a 40% year-on-year growth in 2023, followed by apparel, health, and personal care items. The top international marketplaces for Indian sellers include the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, and Germany.

According to the report, the states with the highest number of exporters in the program include Maharashtra, Delhi, Gujarat, Rajasthan, and Karnataka. These regions have shown the strongest adoption of Amazon’s Global Selling program.
