Logistics firm Delhivery is set to expand into the drone industry by establishing a new subsidiary focused on drone manufacturing and delivery services. The new entity, Delhivery Robotics Private Limited, will be a wholly-owned subsidiary with an authorized capital of Rs 5 crore.
Delhivery’s strategy for the new subsidiary will revolve around four main areas:
- Research and Development: Delhivery Robotics will prioritize research and development in unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) technology. This will involve exploring different types of drones and their payload capabilities to achieve type certification and eventual commercialization.
- Drone-as-a-Service (DaaS): The company will offer drone services for shipment movement and remote sensing. These services aim to enhance logistics and data collection capabilities using advanced drone technology.
- Drone Pilot Training: Delhivery Robotics will establish a comprehensive training program for drone pilots. This program will focus on providing the necessary skills and certifications to ensure safe and effective drone operations.
- Manufacturing and Sales: The subsidiary will also focus on manufacturing drones, involving third-party manufacturing, procurement of components, and conducting flight trials. The goal is to produce and sell drones on a global scale.
US-based Previous Acquisition
In 2022, Delhivery acquired US-based Transition Robotics, a California-based company specializing in developing unmanned aerial system platforms. With this acquisition, Delhivery gained all intellectual property registered in the US by Transition Robotics, which will bolster their capabilities in drone technology.
Strategic Move into Drone Industry
Delhivery’s move into the drone industry is a strategic step aimed at enhancing their logistics services with cutting-edge technology. By focusing on R&D, offering DaaS solutions, training pilots, and manufacturing drones, Delhivery aims to become a significant player in the rapidly growing drone market.
Company entry into the drone manufacturing and delivery services sector through its new subsidiary, Delhivery Robotics Private Limited, marks a significant expansion of the company’s capabilities. With a strong focus on innovation and technology, Delhivery is poised to lead the way in integrating drones into logistics and delivery services.
