Zomato and Blinkit recorded their highest-ever single-day volumes on New Year’s Eve, delivering more than 75 lakh orders across India, according to a statement shared by company leadership. The milestone was achieved even as some gig worker unions had called for a nationwide strike.
The record performance was disclosed by Deepinder Goyal, founder and chief executive of Eternal, the parent company of Zomato. In a post on social media, it was stated that delivery operations continued without major disruption despite strike-related messages circulating for several days.
Support from local law enforcement agencies in several cities was cited as one of the factors that helped ensure smooth operations. The company said overall order fulfilment remained steady through the day and late into the night.
Zomato New Year Orders
According to the data shared, more than 4.5 lakh delivery partners were active on New Year’s Eve. These partners collectively served over 63 lakh customers across food delivery and quick commerce categories.
The high participation enabled Zomato and Blinkit to surpass the 75 lakh order mark in a single day for the first time. This figure represents the combined orders fulfilled across both platforms within a 24-hour period.
New Year’s Eve is traditionally one of the busiest days for food delivery services in India. The company noted that demand remained strong throughout the day, driven by celebrations, home gatherings and late-night orders.
Incentives And Payouts
It was stated that the record volumes were achieved without offering any additional incentives beyond what is usually provided during the year-end period. Higher payouts for delivery partners on New Year’s Eve were described as a standard practice rather than a special arrangement.
The company clarified that payout structures during the period were in line with previous years. No extraordinary bonuses or one-time offers were announced specifically to counter the strike calls.

In his statement, Goyal expressed appreciation for delivery partners who continued to work during the period. He acknowledged that some partners faced pressure but still chose to remain active on the platforms.
Strike Background
The comments came against the backdrop of ongoing concerns raised by gig worker unions across India. Issues related to pay structures, safety conditions and account deactivations have been highlighted by delivery partners working with multiple platforms.
On December 25, 2025, nearly 40,000 delivery partners reportedly participated in a nationwide protest. Media reports had suggested that the protest disrupted an estimated 50–60 percent of deliveries in several cities on that day.
Platforms mentioned in connection with the protests included Zomato, Blinkit, Instamart, Zepto, Flipkart and Amazon. The demands raised by unions have kept the debate around gig work conditions in focus.
Company Response
Responding to the criticism, Goyal stated that the continued participation of a large number of workers indicates that the gig economy continues to offer viable earning opportunities. He said widespread engagement would not be possible if the system were fundamentally unfair.
He also urged observers not to be influenced by what he described as narratives promoted by vested interests. According to him, the gig economy has evolved into one of India’s largest organised job creation systems.
The long-term impact of the sector, he added, is expected to grow as more delivery partners earn steady incomes, support their families and contribute to workforce participation. The New Year’s Eve numbers were presented as an example of the scale and resilience of platform-based delivery services in India.
