Switch Mobility Sees New Leadership as Mahesh Babu Resigns

Share post:

Switch Mobility has announced that its current CEO, S Mahesh Babu, will resign from his role, with effect from August 31, 2025. The company stated that Babu is stepping down to explore new opportunities outside the Hinduja Group, marking the end of a key leadership tenure at the electric vehicle firm.

Ganesh Mani, who currently serves as COO of Ashok Leyland, will step in to take additional charge as CEO of Switch Automotive Mobility Limited (Switch India) starting September 1. The transition is part of a broader strategy to align the company closer with parent firm Ashok Leyland.

Company Appreciates Babu

Chairman Dheeraj G Hinduja expressed his gratitude toward Mahesh Babu’s contributions, highlighting his efforts in achieving Switch India’s recent milestone of EBITDA breakeven in FY25. This financial achievement sets the company up for stronger growth in the coming years.

Ganesh Mani is well-known in the industry for driving large-scale operational transformations. Switch believes his leadership will guide the company into a new phase of profitable and scalable growth as it focuses on zero-emission transport.

Strategy Shifts Forward

Switch Mobility, a joint venture between Ashok Leyland and UK-based Optare, is actively pushing for cost optimization and tighter integration with its parent organization. The leadership shift reflects the company’s aim to streamline operations, reduce costs, and maintain momentum in product innovation.

With a specific focus on electric buses and light commercial vehicles (LCVs), the company is investing heavily in battery-electric transportation that aligns with India’s clean mobility goals.

Vehicles Already Perform

Switch currently offers electric LCVs such as the IeV3 and IeV4, sold through select Ashok Leyland dealers. In the electric bus segment, the company’s 12-meter buses can travel up to 200 kilometers on a single charge, making them suitable for both intra-city and intercity routes.

Switch claims to have over 1,000 electric buses and 1,000 LCVs in operation, together covering more than 150 million kilometers. These vehicles have reportedly reduced over 100,000 tons of CO₂ emissions, showing the environmental impact of their growing fleet.

Future Looks Promising

Backed by an order book of 1,800 buses, including 1,500 for the Indian market, Switch expects to double its revenue in FY26. The company believes Mani’s expertise in managing operations will be essential in meeting these targets and maintaining product reliability and customer satisfaction.

Switch Mobility continues to position itself as a leader in India’s fast-evolving electric vehicle space.
