Karnataka Cheers: Rs 308 Crore in Liquor Sales Ring in New Year

New Year celebrations in Karnataka saw record-breaking liquor sales, with Karnataka State Beverages Corporation Limited (KSBCL) reporting sales worth Rs 308 crore. This exceeded the initial target of Rs 250 crore, marking a significant achievement for the state.

Record Liquor Sales on New Year’s Eve

On December 31, 2023, KSBCL sold liquor worth Rs 193 crore. By 2 p.m. on the same day, total sales had already reached Rs 308 crore, according to KSBCL sources. The official confirmation of total sales is still awaited.

The breakdown of sales included approximately 4.83 lakh boxes of Indian-made liquor (IML), generating Rs 250.25 crore. Additionally, 2.92 lakh boxes of beer bottles were sold, contributing Rs 57.75 crore. Altogether, 7.76 lakh boxes of liquor were sold during the celebrations.

Sales Trends During the Festive Season

Earlier, on December 27, 2023, liquor sales in Karnataka had already reached Rs 408.58 crore. This included the sale of 6.22 lakh boxes of IML, which brought in Rs 327.50 crore, and 4.04 lakh boxes of beer, adding Rs 80.58 crore. These figures highlight the growing demand for liquor during festive periods in the state.

Excise Department’s Response

Officials from the Excise Department expressed their happiness with the record sales. The significant revenue generated during the New Year festivities reflects the strong demand for liquor in Karnataka, especially during celebratory events.

The New Year festivities across Karnataka, particularly in Bengaluru, were celebrated without major incidents. The city witnessed large gatherings, with over a lakh people assembling on M.G. Road and Brigade Road to welcome the New Year between 11 p.m. and midnight.

Security Measures in Bengaluru

The government and the Police Department implemented comprehensive security arrangements to ensure public safety during the celebrations. Over 2,000 police personnel, including both male and female officers, were deployed to monitor key areas like M.G. Road, Brigade Road, and Church Street.

In addition, more than 1,000 police officers were stationed in the Koramangala area, which is home to a significant population of tech professionals. The robust security measures ensured a safe and enjoyable experience for all attendees.

The record liquor sales and the smooth execution of New Year celebrations highlight Karnataka’s vibrant festive spirit. With elaborate planning and strong security arrangements, the state successfully welcomed 2024, creating memorable experiences for its residents and visitors.
