The Atal Innovation Mission (AIM) has partnered with Australia’s Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO) to introduce an innovative program for startups and MSMEs from India and Australia. This collaborative effort is focused on addressing agricultural challenges through the Climate Smart Agritech cohort, part of the India-Australia Rapid Innovation and Start-up Expansion (RISE) Accelerator.

This program is a golden opportunity for businesses focused on international expansion. The cohort aims to foster innovative solutions to agricultural problems exacerbated by climate change, resource scarcity, and food insecurity. By concentrating on technologies that enhance productivity and resilience, the initiative prioritizes the needs of farmers and practical applications in farming operations across India and Australia.

Program Overview

Starting in October 2024, the Climate Smart Agritech cohort will span nine months, combining online learning with in-person immersive experiences in both India and Australia. The selected participants will benefit from one-on-one coaching, market insights, and mentorship from industry leaders. They will also gain access to field trials and technology pilots, enabling them to test and refine their solutions for real-world effectiveness.

Collaboration and Global Impact

Tamara Ogilvie, Program Director at CSIRO, emphasized the shared agricultural challenges between India and Australia, highlighting the unique scale and diversity of their farming systems. “This cohort will allow participants to achieve product-market fit in diverse markets and scale their solutions rapidly to meet global demands,” she said.

The collaboration reflects the growing importance of international partnerships in tackling pressing global issues such as climate change. By bringing together expertise from both nations, the program creates a platform for impactful innovation in the agricultural sector.

Benefits for Startups and MSMEs

Pramit Dash, Program Lead at AIM, outlined the program’s potential to drive innovation in the agriculture sector. “By fostering innovation and providing a platform for startups to scale their solutions, the RISE Accelerator program not only addresses immediate agricultural challenges but also ensures that farmers can access and adopt resilient practices tailored to their specific needs,” he stated.

The selected participants will also be eligible for non-equity grants of up to INR 45 lakh, providing them with additional financial support to bring their solutions to life.

Application Process

Applications for the RISE Accelerator are currently open and will close on 15 September 2024. The program is free to join and offers numerous travel opportunities between India and Australia, making it an excellent chance for startups and MSMEs to expand their reach and impact.

The Climate Smart Agritech cohort represents a unique opportunity for Indian and Australian startups to collaborate and create innovative solutions to pressing agricultural challenges. With the support of AIM and CSIRO, participants will gain valuable insights, mentorship, and financial support, helping them scale their solutions and make a positive impact on global agriculture.
