Altum Credo Raises Rs 170 Crore for Affordable Housing Finance

Share post:

Affordable housing lender Altum Credo Home Finance Pvt. Ltd. has secured Rs 170 crore in fresh equity from British International Investment (BII), its long-term backer. The funds will be used to expand lending for first-time, low-income homebuyers across southern and western India.

The company said the fresh infusion will also help strengthen its balance sheet, enhance technology systems, and boost operational infrastructure. These steps are aimed at improving customer experience, operational efficiency, and digital service delivery.

Focus on Home Buyers

Altum Credo offers long-tenure home loans to low-income households, especially women, who are often underserved by traditional housing finance companies. The company has already served over 15,000 customers across six states, managing assets worth more than Rs 1,000 crore.

The partnership with BII will help increase credit access for low-income borrowers to build or improve homes. According to both organisations, better housing finance leads to improved access to sanitation, electricity, safety, and ultimately stronger asset ownership for families.

Leadership’s Vision

Commenting on the investment, Vikrant Bhagwat, MD & CEO of Altum Credo, said: “We greatly value the continued support from British International Investment. This equity infusion strengthens our balance sheet and allows us to meet the large unmet demand for affordable housing finance in India.”

Altum Credo has also invested in building a strong technology stack since inception. The company plans to further enhance its IT infrastructure with the new capital, ensuring more robust operational controls and improved digital service delivery for customers.

BII’s Commitment

Shilpa Kumar, MD & Head – India at BII, said: “We are continuing our investment in Altum Credo as it aligns with BII’s focus on inclusive growth. Through this partnership, Altum enables low-income households, especially women, to access safer, more secure homes and essential services.”

She further added that BII views housing finance as a key enabler of resilience and long-term development, tying it into their larger climate and impact strategy.
