The Tata Group, known for businesses ranging from coffee to aviation, is preparing to launch the Tata Capital IPO this September. According to market sources, the non-banking financial company (NBFC) arm of the group plans to raise a massive ₹17,200 crore through its initial public offering.
Reports suggest that Tata Capital has scheduled the IPO for the week beginning September 22, 2025, with a target to have the shares listed on the stock market by September 30, 2025. For investors eagerly waiting, this launch will be one of the most significant financial events of the year.
Massive Fundraising Target
The board of Tata Capital had already approved the IPO back on 25 February 2025, and the company submitted its draft documents with SEBI in August. The issue size of ₹17,200 crore positions it as one of the largest public offerings by a financial services company in India.
After the IPO, the valuation of Tata Capital is expected to touch $11 billion, reflecting investor confidence in the Tata brand and the growing demand for financial services in India’s economy.
Share Issue Details
The company has planned to issue a total of 47.58 crore shares under the IPO. Out of this, 21 crore will be fresh shares, while the remaining 26.58 crore shares will be offered through Offer for Sale (OFS).
Among the key sellers, Tata Sons, which is the largest shareholder in Tata Capital, will offload 23 crore shares. Alongside, the International Finance Corporation (IFC) will also sell 3.58 crore shares as part of the offering.

RBI Directions
The IPO launch is not just a business decision but also a regulatory requirement. The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) had earlier directed that top NBFCs must list themselves on the stock market within three years of being notified.
Tata Capital was designated as a top NBFC in September 2022, and the deadline for its listing is September 2025. With this IPO, Tata Capital is set to meet the RBI’s guidelines within the stipulated time frame.
Tata Capital IPO
Tata Capital is one of India’s leading NBFCs, offering services across personal loans, business finance, wealth management, and housing finance. The IPO will give the company greater visibility, financial flexibility, and investor participation in its growth journey.
For investors, the Tata Capital IPO represents not just another opportunity but also a chance to invest in a trusted Tata Group company with a strong presence in financial services. With the backing of Tata Sons and the company’s robust reputation, the issue is expected to attract wide participation.

Recent Popular IPOs
The Indian stock market has seen several blockbuster IPOs in the past few years, setting the stage for Tata Capital’s big debut. Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC) raised over ₹21,000 crore in 2022, making it India’s biggest IPO to date. Companies like Zomato, Nykaa, and Paytm also created waves with their listings, drawing massive investor interest despite mixed market performances later.
Against this backdrop, the Tata Capital IPO is expected to generate immense curiosity and participation, given the Tata Group’s long-standing credibility and diversified business empire.
Looking Ahead
With shares likely to be listed by September 30, 2025, Tata Capital’s IPO could be one of the most anticipated listings of the year. The ₹17,200 crore fundraising will not only boost the company’s capital base but also open new growth avenues in India’s rapidly expanding financial services sector.
For the Tata Group, this marks yet another successful addition to its long list of listed companies. For the market, the Tata Capital IPO is expected to become a landmark event that strengthens investor trust in India’s NBFC sector.
