Sensex, Nifty Start Samvat 2081 on a Positive Note in Muhurat Trading

In a special Muhurat trading session on Friday, the Sensex gained 335.06 points (0.42%), ending at 79,724.12, while the Nifty rose 99 points (0.41%) to close at 24,304.35. This session marked the start of the new Samvat Year 2081, a tradition observed every Diwali. The trading session ran from 6 PM to 7 PM on Friday, enabling traders to begin their new accounting books.

Sensex Nifty Muhurat Trading

Looking back at Samvat 2080, which ended on Thursday, Sensex saw impressive growth, gaining 14,484.38 points (22.31%), while Nifty surged 4,780 points (24.60%). Investor wealth rose by Rs 124.42 lakh crore during this period, reaching Rs 4,44,71,429.92 crore (USD 5.29 trillion).

Positive Opening for Samvat 2081

In Friday’s session, Sensex opened strong and stayed positive, buoyed by buying in sectors like banking, auto, and oil & gas. The index fluctuated between 80,023.75 and 79,655.55 throughout the session. Among the biggest gainers in Sensex, Mahindra & Mahindra climbed 3.29%, followed by Adani Ports (1.26%), Tata Motors (1.14%), and Axis Bank (0.92%). Other top performers included Nestle, NTPC, Reliance, ITC Titan, Kotak Bank, Infosys, and TCS.

Some companies saw declines, with HCL Tech, Tech Mahindra, and ICICI Bank closing lower.

Broader Market and Sectoral Gains

The BSE Midcap index rose by 0.69% (317.72 points) to reach 45,996.71, while the BSE SmallCap index increased by 1.16% (639.73 points), settling at 54,982.87. Sectoral indices were also positive, with BSE Auto gaining 1.15%, consumer discretionary up 1.10%, and oil & gas rising 0.91%.

Global Markets Reflect Mixed Trends

In global markets, European stocks rose in early trade, while Asian markets faced losses. Japan’s Nikkei 225 fell by 2.6%, Shanghai Composite dipped 0.2%, and South Korea’s Kospi lost 0.5%. However, Hong Kong’s Hang Seng index closed with a 0.9% gain.

Recent Market Performance

Foreign institutional investors (FIIs) were net sellers on Thursday, offloading Rs 5,813.30 crore worth of shares. The BSE Sensex dropped 553.12 points (0.69%) on Thursday, while NSE Nifty fell 135.50 points (0.56%). October saw a sharp decline in both indices, with Sensex down 4,910.72 points (5.82%) and Nifty falling 1,605.5 points (6.22%).
