Kerala is set to host the country’s first international Gen AI conclave next week. This event will boost Kerala’s efforts to become a leading hub for artificial intelligence (AI), according to Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan.
In a Facebook post, CM Vijayan announced that over a thousand delegates will participate in the two-day conclave, held in Kochi on July 11 and 12. The event is organized by global tech company IBM in collaboration with the state government.

WatsonX Challenge
Alongside the conclave, IBM will host the WatsonX Challenge. This challenge aims to connect academic knowledge with real-life applications using generative AI. Over 50 AI startups will compete, and the winning team will receive an award and the chance to present their ideas to global investors.
Government and Corporate Support
Vijayan highlighted that other companies are also showing interest in investing in Kerala. The government anticipates more AI-based investments to flow into the state this year.
The official website for the event was launched in June. The state government previously stated that the conclave will bring together industry leaders, policymakers, and innovators to explore AI’s transformative potential and its impact on society and the economy.
Significance of the Conclave
This event is seen as a significant milestone for AI advancement in Kerala and India. State Industries Minister P Rajeev emphasized that the conclave demonstrates Kerala’s commitment to fostering innovation and embracing transformative technologies. Partnering with IBM, this initiative aims to position Kerala as a hub for Generative AI innovation, driving economic growth and supporting the state’s vision for Industry 4.0 readiness.
Announced in this year’s budget, the decision to hold this grand AI conclave is one of the most important interventions by the state government in the AI sector. It reflects Kerala’s dedication to becoming a leader in AI and technology innovation.
