Air India Express Cancels 86 Flights Due to Cabin Crew ‘Mass Sick Leave’

Share post:

Air India Express, a prominent player in the aviation industry, recently faced significant disruption in its services as 86 flights were cancelled, and numerous others experienced delays. The disruption arose from a mass ‘sick leave’ initiated by cabin crew members protesting against the airline’s ongoing transition, leading to dissatisfaction among senior employees, including cabin crew members, regarding changes within the airline.

The catalyst for the protest was the Directorate General of Civil Aviation’s approval of Tata Group’s initiative to merge AIX Connect with Air India Express. This decision triggered unrest among cabin crew members, who perceived the move as unfavorable and detrimental to their interests. As a result, they chose to express their grievances through a collective ‘sick leave,’ which disrupted the airline’s operations and inconvenienced passengers.

In response to the situation, an Air India Express spokesperson acknowledged the challenges faced by the airline and assured passengers that efforts were underway to address the issue and minimize inconvenience. Despite the unexpected disruption, the airline remains committed to upholding service standards and ensuring passenger satisfaction.

Affected passengers were offered full refunds or complimentary rescheduling to mitigate the inconvenience caused by the flight cancellations and delays. Air India Express reaffirmed its commitment to transparency and accountability, pledging to keep passengers informed about any developments and measures taken to resolve the situation promptly.

The incident underscores the complexities involved in managing transitions and organizational changes within the aviation sector. As Air India Express navigates through this period of transition, it emphasizes the importance of effective communication, stakeholder engagement, and conflict resolution to mitigate disruptions and maintain operational efficiency.

Moving forward, Air India Express aims to learn from this experience and implement measures to prevent similar incidents in the future. The airline remains focused on enhancing service delivery, optimizing operational processes, and fostering a conducive work environment for its employees to ensure sustainable growth and long-term success in the competitive aviation market.
