PhonePe Partners with Liquid Group to Enable UPI Payments in Singapore

Share post:

PhonePe, the popular UPI payment platform, has joined hands with Liquid Group, a leading fintech company specializing in cross-border payment solutions, to expand UPI payment acceptance in Singapore. This collaboration will allow Indian travelers to easily use their PhonePe app for payments across various merchants in Singapore, making it more convenient for visitors from India.

UPI Acceptance in Singapore

Through this partnership, PhonePe users will be able to scan UPI QR codes and pay at Liquid Group’s merchant network in Singapore. Popular tourist spots such as Changi Airport, duty-free shops, restaurants, and retailers like Charles & Keith, The Cocoa Trees, and Hard Rock Café will display these QR codes. This move ensures a seamless payment experience for Indian travelers at various sightseeing locations and transport services in Singapore. The QR code integration is made possible through Liquid Group’s collaboration with NPCI International Payments Limited (NIPL), allowing UPI payments to be widely accepted.

Convenient Payment Process

To make payments, PhonePe users simply need to scan the QR codes provided by the merchants. Transactions will be processed in Indian Rupees (INR), making it easier for Indian visitors to understand their spending and avoid exchange rate confusion. Additionally, the PhonePe app allows travelers to complete transactions without needing to share sensitive banking details like bank account numbers or IFSC codes.

Additional Features for NRIs

Apart from making payments during their stay in Singapore, PhonePe also offers features for Non-Resident Indians (NRIs). NRE/NRO account holders can use the PhonePe app to make payments for services in India, such as paying utility bills or sending money to family and friends. These features are part of PhonePe’s international UPI enablement, which started in 2024 and has seen growing adoption.

Leadership Insights

Ritesh Pai, CEO of International Payments at PhonePe, expressed excitement about the partnership, saying, “We are thrilled to bring the convenience of UPI payments to Indian travelers visiting Singapore. With the help of Liquid Group, travelers can now pay quickly at their favorite spots, making their trips more enjoyable.”

Alvin Seck, CCO of Liquid Group, also highlighted the partnership, stating, “We are excited to join forces with PhonePe to simplify transactions for Indian tourists in Singapore.
