A global cybersecurity company, ESET, has announced the launch of the 2025 ESET Women in Cybersecurity Scholarship in India in partnership with Ashoka University. This initiative aims to support female students pursuing cybersecurity and STEM degrees, helping to bridge the gender gap in the field.
Empowering Women in Cybersecurity
Despite rapid technological advancements, women continue to be underrepresented in India’s cybersecurity workforce. According to a recent Data Security Council of India (DSCI) report, women make up only 11% of cybersecurity professionals in the country. ESET’s scholarship program is designed to encourage more women to enter this critical field by offering financial aid, mentorship, and career development opportunities.
Scholarship Benefits and Selection Process
The scholarship provides a one-time grant of USD 5,000 to a deserving female student pursuing a Computer Science degree at Ashoka University. The selection committee will evaluate applicants based on the following criteria:
- Academic excellence in cybersecurity or related STEM fields
- Leadership skills and contributions to the tech community
- Community involvement in cybersecurity awareness or outreach programs
- Commitment to innovation in cybersecurity
Speaking about the initiative, Parvinder Walia, President of Asia Pacific & Japan at ESET, emphasized the importance of diversity in cybersecurity. “Building a strong cybersecurity future requires an inclusive workforce that promotes innovation. This scholarship is more than just financial aid—it also provides skill-building and mentorship to create a lasting impact.”
Since launching in 2016, the ESET Women in Cybersecurity Scholarship has supported over 28 women worldwide. With its expansion to India in 2025, the program now extends to countries such as the US, Canada, Australia, and the UK.
Application Process and Deadlines
Eligible students can apply for the scholarship from March 8 to April 25, 2025. The final recipient will be announced in May 2025. To qualify, applicants must be:
- Indian citizens or permanent residents
- Enrolled in Ashoka University’s Computer Science program
ESET’s scholarship initiative comes at a time when the demand for cybersecurity professionals is increasing worldwide. By providing financial support and mentorship, the program aims to encourage more women to consider cybersecurity as a career and contribute to making the field more inclusive.
With its strong focus on gender diversity, the ESET Women in Cybersecurity Scholarship is a step towards closing the gender gap in technology. Female students interested in cybersecurity careers now have an opportunity to receive both financial support and career guidance, helping them succeed in this fast-growing industry.
