Nxtra by Airtel Boosts Green Energy with AMPIN Deal

Share post:

Nxtra by Airtel has signed a fresh agreement with AMPIN Energy Transition to supply 205,167 MWh of clean power each year, this green energy will come from solar-wind hybrid projects connected through India’s Inter-State Transmission System (ISTS). The new deal includes 125.65 MW of capacity, to be delivered in two phases from captive projects based in Rajasthan and Karnataka.

With this, Nxtra and AMPIN’s renewable partnership grows to over 200 MW, marking a big step in powering digital infrastructure sustainably.

Nxtra Green Energy

This extra green power is expected to cut Nxtra’s yearly carbon emissions by around 149,156 tonnes of CO₂ equivalent (tCO₂e). This supports Nxtra’s Net Zero commitment, which follows the Science-Based Targets initiative (SBTi).

Ashish Arora, CEO of Nxtra by Airtel, shared, “This partnership strengthens our leadership in using ISTS-backed clean energy for data centres. With over 200 MW of renewables, we’re setting new benchmarks in sustainable digital operations.”

Extends Existing Ties

AMPIN was already supplying Nxtra with solar energy under intra-state open access in states like Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, and Odisha. The latest deal now covers 11 more states and adds ISTS-linked solutions from one independent power producer, showing how renewable supply can scale nationwide.

Pinaki Bhattacharyya, Founder, MD & CEO of AMPIN Energy Transition, said, “We’re proud to support data centres going green. This partnership proves we can enable near 100% energy transition by combining inter-state and intra-state renewables.”

Focuses on Net Zero Goals

Nxtra joined the global RE100 alliance in June 2024, becoming the first Indian data centre operator to commit to sourcing 100% of its electricity from renewables. The company is also investing in energy efficiency and low-carbon technologies to reduce emissions across its data centres in India.

These steps make Nxtra a leader in India’s push for sustainable digital infrastructure, aligning its growth with global climate goals.
