Telecom equipment giant Nokia has significantly boosted its exports from India, with up to 70% of its production now being shipped to global markets. This move aligns with the Indian government’s ‘Make in India’ initiative, reinforcing the country’s position as a major telecom manufacturing hub.

According to Tarun Chhabra, Senior Vice President and Country Head, Nokia India, the company’s export volume fluctuates between 30% to 70%, depending on market demand. In 2023, 50% of its production was exported, with a focus on radio equipment.

By expanding its exports, Nokia is not only increasing its global footprint but also strengthening India’s position in the global telecom supply chain.

Nokia Powers Vi 5G and 4G Expansion

On Wednesday, Nokia announced a strategic partnership with Vodafone Idea (Vi) to provide the latest 5G and 4G baseband and radio modules as the telecom operator gears up for a phased 5G rollout in key markets.

Additionally, Nokia is playing a crucial role in expanding Vi’s 4G network, ensuring better connectivity through:

  • Deployment of 60,000 new technology sites by March 2025
  • Installation of thousands of new 4G sites
  • Implementation of ultra-lean sites to enhance network quality in densely populated urban areas

With rising demand for high-speed and reliable networks, Nokia’s collaboration with Vodafone Idea will help improve service quality for both businesses and retail consumers.

We achieved very fast delivery and deployment of 5G and 4G sites for Vi. Our partnership empowers telecom operators with cutting-edge technology, fostering better connectivity and unlocking new business opportunities.

Boosting Telecom with Advanced Technology

Nokia is leveraging its market-leading AirScale portfolio, which includes Multi Radio Access Technology (RAT) baseband units and radio modules. These technologies are powered by its energy-efficient ReefShark System-on-Chip solution, enabling:

  • Improved coverage and capacity
  • Higher network efficiency
  • Reduced energy consumption

Jagbir Singh, CTO of Vodafone Idea, also expressed confidence in the partnership, saying:
“We are working closely with Nokia to provide 5G services to our customers at the earliest. The rapid 4G expansion will enhance our coverage and capacity, offering a superior customer experience.”

With strong export growth and a key role in India’s 5G rollout, Nokia is reinforcing its leadership in telecom technology. By continuing to support Vodafone Idea’s network expansion, the company is not only advancing India’s digital transformation but also strengthening its global telecom presence.
