Jimny 5-Door Exports Surpass 1 Lakh Units Milestone

Share post:

Maruti Suzuki India Ltd announced that its compact SUV, the Jimny 5-door, has achieved cumulative exports of over 1 lakh units from India. The milestone marks a significant step in the model’s global journey since its export operations began in 2023.

According to the company, the Jimny 5-door has been exported to more than 100 markets, including Japan, Mexico, Australia, South Africa, and Chile. In Japan, the model is sold as the “Jimny Nomade.” Since its introduction there in January 2025, the vehicle reportedly received 50,000 orders within a few days of launch.

The model’s export performance underscores the growing international demand for compact SUVs with off-road capabilities that combine durability and practicality. The Jimny 5-door now ranks as Maruti Suzuki’s second most-exported model after the Fronx crossover.

Maruti Jimny Features

The Jimny 5-door is built on the brand’s ladder-frame chassis and is powered by a 1.5-litre petrol engine. It incorporates Suzuki’s ALLGRIP PRO four-wheel-drive system, designed for performance across varied terrains.

Developed with an emphasis on reliability and utility, the model’s engineering enables everyday usability alongside its off-road functionality. The company stated that this balance has contributed to the SUV’s strong reception across multiple markets.

Leadership Statement

Commenting on the exports of over 1 lakh Jimny units from India, Hisashi Takeuchi, Managing Director & CEO of Maruti Suzuki India Limited, said that the Jimny’s global appeal builds upon its long heritage as an off-road vehicle.

He noted that reaching the 1 lakh export mark for the 5-door variant represents a significant achievement for Maruti Suzuki and reinforces confidence in India’s automobile manufacturing capabilities. Takeuchi added that the vehicle’s success reflects customer trust in its design, performance, and quality.

He further stated that the Jimny, along with the company’s 16 other export models, continues to exemplify the “Make in India for the World” philosophy. The company highlighted that the consistent rise in exports demonstrates India’s advancing role as a hub for world-class automobile production.

Market Performance

Maruti Suzuki’s overall export performance has also shown substantial growth. In the first half of FY2025–26, the company reported shipping over two lakh vehicles globally, representing a 40% year-on-year increase. This marks Maruti Suzuki’s highest-ever half-year export volume.

With approximately 46% of India’s total passenger vehicle exports, Maruti Suzuki continues to maintain its leadership position among Indian automakers in global shipments. In the preceding financial year, FY2024–25, the company had exported more than 3.3 lakh vehicles, further consolidating its role as India’s top automobile exporter.

Industry Context

The Jimny 5-door’s export milestone adds to India’s growing prominence as a production base for both domestic and global automobile brands. Vehicles manufactured in India have increasingly found markets in Asia, Latin America, and Africa, leveraging cost efficiencies and expanding consumer acceptance.

Continuing Outlook

Maruti Suzuki stated that it remains focused on broadening its international reach by strengthening export infrastructure and diversifying model availability in global markets. The company expects sustained demand from markets in Asia-Pacific, Latin America, and the Middle East to support continued export momentum.

The Jimny’s consistent growth across diverse markets demonstrates both product adaptability and India’s capacity to serve as a reliable source of quality automobile exports. As Maruti Suzuki continues to expand its export portfolio, the company’s performance underscores India’s evolving position within the global automotive supply chain.
