Uber Receives License to Operate Premium Bus Service in Delhi

Share post:

Uber, the popular ride-hailing app, has been granted an aggregator license by the Delhi Transport Department to operate buses under the Delhi Premium Bus Scheme. This makes Delhi the first state to issue a license for bus operations to an aggregator, and Uber is the first company to receive it.

The decision follows a successful pilot program where Uber saw significant demand for its bus services. Amit Deshpande, Head of Uber Shuttle India, expressed excitement about bringing the convenience of Uber rides to buses in Delhi.

Customers can pre-book seats on their preferred routes by selecting the ‘Uber Shuttle’ option on the Uber app. This new bus service is designed to meet daily commuting needs, offering a reliable and convenient transportation option.

Uber Shuttle allows commuters to pre-book seats up to a week in advance. They can also track the live location and route of the bus and view its expected time of arrival (ETA) through the Uber app. Each shuttle vehicle will accommodate 19-50 passengers and will be operated by local fleet partners using Uber’s technology.

Expansion and Previous Operations

The official launch of Uber Shuttle in Delhi builds on a pilot program tested in Delhi-NCR. The service has been operational in Kolkata since last year under a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the West Bengal government.

Several Benefits for Commuters

Uber Shuttle offers several benefits for commuters, including the ability to secure a seat in advance and access real-time information about their ride. This service aims to provide a more organized and efficient commuting experience, reducing the hassle of finding transportation during peak hours.
