Tesla Launches Model Y and Charging Network in India

Share post:

Tesla has officially entered the Indian market by opening its first-ever Tesla Experience Center in Mumbai. This new space allows Indian customers to explore Tesla’s vehicles, technology, and clean energy mission. It aims to educate people about electric vehicles and create excitement for Tesla’s future in India.

The center offers a chance to interact with Tesla’s innovative systems and understand how the brand is contributing to a zero-emission future. The company is taking its first big step in India by offering the redesigned Model Y electric car, set to be available in key cities.

Model Y Enters India

The updated Model Y, already a global best-seller in 2023 and 2024, will launch in India in two versions, rear-wheel drive and long-range rear-wheel drive. Deliveries are expected to begin in the third quarter of 2025, starting with Mumbai, Delhi, and Gurugram.

Known for its performance and range, the Model Y can go from 0 to 100 km/h in just 5.6 seconds and offers a top speed of 201 km/h. It can travel up to 622 kilometers on a full charge under the WLTP test cycle. The vehicle also features spacious seating for five and a cargo capacity of over 2,130 liters. The starting price is INR 59,89,000.

Futuristic Design Features

The new design of the Model Y adds a modern touch, with a front lightbar and tailgate inspired by Tesla’s Cybertruck and Cybercab. Indian buyers will be able to customize their Model Y through the Tesla Design Studio, which is set to launch on July 15, 2025.

This level of personalization will allow customers to choose color, wheels, and interior finishes online before placing an order, aligning with Tesla’s global direct-to-customer model.

Charging Network Plans

Tesla is also building a powerful EV charging network across India. It plans to launch its first indoor hybrid charging station soon, which will include both Superchargers and Destination chargers. These will support fast and convenient charging for all Tesla owners.

The Supercharging system, with a 99.95% uptime in 2024, can add up to 267 km of range in just 15 minutes. Tesla is also giving a free home wall connector with every new Model Y, helping users charge their cars easily from home.

About Tesla in India

Tesla’s entry into India reflects its broader commitment to clean transportation and sustainable energy. While this is Tesla’s first retail step in the country, the company has long expressed interest in India’s EV potential.

By launching a popular model like the Model Y and backing it with charging infrastructure, Tesla shows that it is ready to make long-term investments in India’s green mobility shift.

Tesla’s arrival signals a major moment for the Indian electric vehicle market. With its clean energy focus, advanced vehicle technology, and growing network, Tesla is set to become a key player in India’s auto future.
