Germany-based traveltech company FlixBus has officially expanded its services to South India. This move follows the company’s successful debut in the North Indian market and marks a significant step in its growth within the country. FlixBus will begin operations in the southern region on September 10, 2024, connecting several major cities.
Covering Key Cities in the South
FlixBus is launching its services with routes connecting Bengaluru to various important cities in South India, including Chennai, Hyderabad, Coimbatore, Madurai, Tirupati, Vijayawada, and Belagavi. This expansion strengthens FlixBus’s network, which now covers 101 cities and 215 stops across India.
One of the most anticipated routes is the daily service between Bengaluru and Belagavi. This route features a luxury air-conditioned sleeper bus, offering comfortable overnight travel. The bus departs from Bengaluru’s Majestic bus terminal at 9:10 PM and arrives in Belagavi by 6:55 AM the next morning. The return service from Belagavi leaves at 9:15 PM and reaches Bengaluru at 6:25 AM. FlixBus ensures passenger safety with advanced features like ABS (anti-lock braking system), ESC (electronic stability control), and two-point seat belts for all passengers.
Support from Karnataka’s Minister
MB Patil, Karnataka’s Minister for Commerce & Industries, Infrastructure, expressed his support for FlixBus’s expansion into the region. He remarked, “FlixBus will address the long-distance mobility needs of people in Karnataka and the southern region with a technology-driven, collective transport alternative.”
FlixBus has also partnered with six local bus operators in South India, aiming to enhance their operations through its digital platform. This partnership enables local operators to optimize their services, reach a broader audience, and provide a consistent travel experience for passengers.
Future Expansion Plans in South India
FlixBus has ambitious plans for further expansion in South India. The company intends to add a total of 33 cities and over 200 new daily connections across Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, and Kerala.
Surya Khurana, Managing Director of FlixBus India, emphasized that this expansion is not just about adding new routes but also about bringing world-class technology to local partners. “We aim to ensure that passengers enjoy a seamless and consistent travel experience across all our services,” Khurana said.
With this expansion, FlixBus continues to solidify its presence in India, offering convenient and safe travel options to passengers across the country.
