Eternal, parent company of Zomato has appointed Aditya Mangla as the new CEO of its core food delivery business. This change comes at a time when Zomato’s growth in the segment is slowing down, with year-on-year progress dipping below 20% in recent quarters. The board approved Mangla’s appointment on July 6, and his term will last for two years.
Mangla steps in to succeed Rakesh Ranjan, whose tenure ended the same day. Although Ranjan is no longer part of Zomato’s senior management team, he will stay associated with the company in a different role.
Goyal Shares His Vision
Deepinder Goyal, Zomato’s founder and CEO, had been directly managing the food delivery division since April and shared the announcement in an internal message. He emphasized that this is more than a leadership shuffle, it signals a cultural shift.
“We need leaders who are decisive yet humble, quick but thoughtful, and strong enough to make uncertain decisions,” Goyal wrote. His message underlines the challenges of running a large-scale delivery business in a competitive and evolving market.

Proven Track Record
Mangla joined Zomato in March 2021 and has served in several key roles such as head of supply, customer experience, and most recently, head of product for food delivery. He also worked closely with Goyal as chief of staff. His appointment is seen as a strategic move to bring stability and innovation at a time when market growth is softening.
Zomato reported gross order value (GOV) of Rs 9,778 crore for the January–March 2025 quarter, showing only 16% annual growth and a slight dip of 1% compared to the previous quarter.
Strong Background
Mangla holds a master’s degree in Information Networking from Carnegie Mellon University and a PGP in Management from the Indian School of Business, where he won the prestigious Torchbearer Award. He also studied IT engineering at Netaji Subhas Institute of Technology and worked across product and marketing roles in startups before joining Zomato.
He is now officially designated as both CEO of the food delivery business and a senior management personnel according to the company’s filings.
