Vistara, the well-loved Indian airline, will fly under its own brand for the last time on November 11, 2024. Starting November 12, all Vistara flights will be part of Air India as part of a major merger between the two Tata-owned carriers. This merger ends the era of Vistara as a standalone brand, creating a combined, stronger full-service airline.
What Changes for Passengers?
From November 12, Vistara’s aircraft will operate under Air India. This means travelers will see changes like new flight numbers beginning with AI 2XXX. For instance, Vistara’s flight UK 955 (Delhi to Mumbai) will become AI 2955.
Passengers will still experience the same high level of service Vistara is known for. However, frequent flyers should note that Vistara’s loyalty program, Club Vistara, will merge with Air India’s Flying Returns. All existing CV Points and vouchers will be transferred, and members will retain their tier status.
Transition Details and Deadlines
Vistara sent out reminders to Club Vistara members to claim and download their loyalty data before November 10, 2024. After this date, access to Club Vistara accounts will be restricted. The new, combined loyalty program will be called the Maharaja Club.
Background of the Merger
The merger, approved by the Indian government, allows Singapore Airlines to invest in the unified Air India brand, owning a 25.1% stake. This integration follows changes in foreign investment rules that allowed ventures like Vistara to grow. The process started in November 2022 and is set to provide expanded routes and more travel options for passengers.
An Emotional Farewell
On Vistara’s final operational day, travelers and staff shared emotional farewells. Passengers reported nostalgic moments during in-flight announcements, with some flights playing the song “Kal Ho Na Ho” upon landing.
Social media saw posts from travelers bidding goodbye to the airline. One user shared memories of a flight to Paris, reflecting on the end of Vistara’s journey as they saw an Air India plane alongside theirs.
Looking Ahead
The combined airline aims to strengthen its fleet and services, offering passengers more options and an enhanced experience. This significant shift marks the end of joint-venture airlines in India and opens a new chapter in Indian aviation with a unified Air India as the country’s only full-service carrier.
