Why Tak 360? India Today Group Launches New Digital News Channel

Share post:

India Today Group has expanded its digital news portfolio with the launch of Tak 360, positioned as the country’s first FAST (Free Ad-Supported Streaming Television) news channel. The new offering is part of the group’s Tak Network and is aimed at audiences increasingly consuming news on connected devices.

Tak 360 is designed to serve viewers seeking continuous, real-time updates across multiple news categories. The channel brings together coverage spanning politics, business, crime, culture, sports, fitness and wellness, reflecting a broader shift toward multi-genre digital news consumption.

The launch comes at a time when connected TV and digital streaming platforms are seeing rapid growth in India. Media companies are increasingly adapting their content strategies to meet the needs of viewers who prefer on-demand and live news through internet-enabled screens.

Digital-first Approach

The editorial philosophy of Tak 360 is guided by the theme “Gali se Globe Tak”, which focuses on linking hyperlocal stories with national and international developments. The aim is to present local issues within a wider context, helping viewers understand how grassroots events connect with global trends.

According to the group, the channel blends on-ground reporting with broader analysis, offering a continuous news flow that moves across regions and subjects. This approach is intended to make the channel relevant to audiences from different parts of the country while maintaining a wider global outlook.

By combining multiple genres under one digital stream, Tak 360 seeks to provide a comprehensive news experience rather than limiting itself to a single content category.

Leadership Perspective

Commenting on the launch, Kalli Purie said the new channel represents the group’s effort to adapt its long-standing news legacy to newer platforms. The focus, she noted, is on meeting audiences where they are increasingly spending time on connected and digital platforms.

The channel is positioned as an extension of the group’s existing digital presence, rather than a replacement for traditional formats. It reflects a broader strategy to remain relevant as viewing habits evolve and competition in the digital news space intensifies.

Industry observers see the move as part of a larger trend among established media houses to invest in FAST channels, which offer free access supported by advertising.

Tak 360 is being streamed live across multiple platforms within the India Today Group’s digital ecosystem. These include News Tak on YouTube and web, Aaj Tak’s website and app, and India Today’s website and app, along with connected TV applications such as India Today, GNT and Aaj Tak.

This wide distribution is intended to provide seamless access for viewers in India and overseas, allowing the channel to reach audiences across mobile devices, desktops and smart televisions without subscription barriers.

The always-on nature of the channel aligns with the consumption patterns of digital-first viewers who prefer quick access to news updates throughout the day.

Editorial Positioning

The channel is backed by a continuous programming schedule and an editorial framework that emphasises balance and inclusivity. The group has stated that credibility and depth remain central to the channel’s content strategy, despite the fast-paced format.

Tak 360 is positioned as a national digital destination that reflects India’s diversity while adapting to shorter attention spans and real-time viewing habits. Its success is likely to be measured by how effectively it can combine speed with context in a competitive digital news environment.

With this launch, India Today Group strengthens its presence in the FAST and connected TV space, signalling a continued focus on digital innovation as news consumption in India shifts further online.
