Truecaller, a well-known caller identification app based in Sweden, has announced that Rishit Jhunjhunwala will become the company’s next CEO. Jhunjhunwala, who is currently the Chief Product Officer and Managing Director for India, will take over the role on January 9, 2025. This change follows the decision of co-founders Alan Mamedi and Nami Zarringhalam to step down from their daily roles and focus on their responsibilities as board members and strategic advisors.
Co-Founders to Continue as Advisors
Despite stepping back from day-to-day operations, Alan Mamedi and Nami Zarringhalam, who founded Truecaller in 2009, will stay on as advisors until June 30, 2025. They will continue to help guide the company’s long-term strategy and vision. In a joint statement, they expressed confidence in the company’s future, highlighting the strong management team and the long-term strategy in place.
“We trust our management team and believe in the strategy that is already showing positive results. As advisors and board members, we will continue to support Truecaller’s growth,” Mamedi and Zarringhalam said.
Rishit Journey at Truecaller
Rishit Jhunjhunwala has been a key figure at Truecaller since joining the company in 2015 as Head of Product. His role grew over the years, and by 2020, he became the Chief Product Officer. In 2021, he also became the Managing Director for India, overseeing the company’s operations in one of its largest markets. Jhunjhunwala, originally from India and holding Swedish citizenship, has experience working in both India and Sweden, giving him a unique perspective on local and international markets.
“I am excited to take on this new role. Working alongside Alan and Nami for so many years has been a great experience, and I am eager to continue our mission to make communication safer and more secure,” said Jhunjhunwala.
Truecaller’s Success and Challenges Ahead
Truecaller has grown rapidly, especially in emerging markets like India, which makes up over 75% of its net sales. The company went public on Nasdaq Stockholm in 2021 and remains a leader in caller identification. However, it faces challenges, including increasing competition from companies like Airtel and regulatory scrutiny.
